v0.0.965 Release Notes

Going to start mirroring my release notes to the website for external viewing. As the version number suggests, we are still very early days, even though I have many months of work into this now.

This is a bit of an aggregate of the last few iterations today. I am doing very small iterations to allow for consistent and cross platform testing.

v0.0.963

  • Added Garage to pre race lobby so players can change car and mods after joining lobby
  • Updated Paint Selection logic Updated Track selection data, this will make it easier to track track selection and add new tracks. It includes important differences in data storage to allow for day/night selection on tracks, and multiple tracks per level
  • Added input tracking for lobby and in-race, all menus are navigatable using controller/keyboard, I need to go back and add some mouse click functions to round it all out eventually, fully focused on controller navigation currently
  • Updated Menu hover visuals

v0.0.964

  • Smokey mountain is back. And a first test “Point to Point” Hillclimb style map called Mt Knee – it’s a bit s**t, but just testing the point to point is working. (So far so good)
  • Added Popup track selection to make picking tracks nicer – need to add better preview images
  • Added function so that players that joined the lobby can see laps set and current track selection update live as host changes

v0.0.965

  • Leaderboard was wiped (sorry cob) did a data structure change and it was the easiest way to ensure good data moving forward. Will try to do this as little as possible, but rapidly iterating means its likely to happen again sometime.
  • In-game leaderboard now working, live updates with top 10 times and players current PB. It will show the currently selected car/track, might look at adding options to search through combos, but I think the website is more suited to this.
  • Have added a function to the API to return submitted lap time information back, so will have onscreen display when in time trial of current world position of submitted time, PB etc. Much more planned in this space
  • Fixed issue with Engine audio not discontinuing when car leaves session (controller vibration issue still exists, it’s on the list)

There has been a lot of work on UI lately, visuals, audio, but mostly function. Making sure the UI is navigable from controller/keyboard only, making design decisions on how it should flow together.

This leaderboard is one of those design decisions that I have struggled with, I think the flexibility of having a public website that users could go as little or as far indepth with the data as they like (with alot of those features to come) means the in game leaderboard can be much more specific. I think players will tend to stick with their favourite car for instance, so adding a toggle to switch leaderboard car information is possible unnecessary. But maybe they want to see how their car stacks up against other cars on the same track.

Nevertheless, progressing well at this stage. Introducing new features and killing bugs.

Until next time.
